Clicksor User Experience

In 2005 one of my website was getting about 10,000 daily visits all from organic search as i have not done any sort of paid advertisement and i rely mostly on content building which delivers me organic traffic mostly from google. 90% of my traffic was from google organic searches. i was using adsense on my website which was giving me a decent earning but i got greedy and decided to look around for other options.

I looked around and read some reviews and checked if i am allowed to have clicksor advertisements along with google adsense and it seemed fine. some people had mentioned in their blogs that clicksor pays very well and is a good alternative to google adsense even so i decided to give it a try. there were other options also available but they had other issues like not paying in my country of residence and other stuff like that so i decided to give it a go for clicksor and applied for their program. they approved my application quickly and gave me code to put on my website.

I added the code and verified that the ads are working and sat back and relaxed hoping to have my income multiplied. one week and nothing, absolutely nothing in my account, it was surprising to see more than 50k impressions and no earning, i contacted support and was informed that my earning will start to show up. in a few days it did but it was only a few cents for all the clicks. it was disappointing, but i decided to give it some time. After 4 weeks of showing clicksor advertisements on my website, all of a sudden my visitors dropped from 10,000 per day to 400 per day. that was alarming as i did not have any other website at that time and it was my only source of revenue. i checked for a few obvious things and could not find anything significant and then i decided to undo the clicksor ads, i removed the script altogether from my website and did nothing. after 4 weeks my website was again getting same traffic about 10,000 visitors per day.

I was an idiot and did a very stupid thing and put clicksor back, to make sure that if it was because of clicksor or something else. it had happened to me once before like a year before that and i moved my website to godaddy hosting and it was fine after that so i put the clicksor advertisement back and this time i noticed better revenue but still only 20% of what google adsense pays. i was ok with this since it was coming alongside google adsense. but then again after 6 weeks, google sandboxed my website from search results and all the major pages stopped appearing in searches and the site was down to 300 visitors a day. this was a huge disappointment and was all my own undoings. i removed the clicksor again but guess google wasnt going to play the games with me and they banned my site permenantly this time.

i did not have much experience about SEO at that time. i am not an expert now either but atleast now i know the reason behind that. back in those days clicksor script was very slow and it had made my website extremely slow to respond and eventually google penalized me for having a slow website. i had a chance, i missed and off you go. there must be some more reasons, but this one looked like the most obvious one. I continued to show google adsense advertisements on that site till now and the visitors keep varying, they increased slightly to 800 a day and then over a period of next 4 years they have now increased consistently to 5000 a day but all these visitors are on new pages that have been created after the site was sandboxed, those old pages are not in the rankings for those terms anymore.

If you are looking to experiment with any scripts or any integration for revenue or any other reason, make sure that they are not slowing down your site or you will be in for a surprise like i had. and moderate the content published on your site since its your responsibilty to publish valid content that adhere  to google TOS.
