Macromedia Dreamweaver

can't save/ update files

I'm using Macromedia Studio MX 2004, v7. When I modify an existing file, and
asterisk (*) appears next to the file name on the tab. When you save the file,
the asterisk is supposed to go away. For me, it's not. I know that sounds
rivial, but bear with me here. When I go to close a file, it asks if I would
like to save changes (even if I saved the file already) and I have to click
"No" after saving a few times just to be sure. If I click yes, it opens the
Save As window. If I use the origional file name, the file disappears. It's as
if it gets deleted. If I try to save it from that point with a different file
name, it never shows up- as if it never existed. Okay, so clearly I've found a
way to work around this by saving and then selecting not to save changes. While
all of this is is really annoying, it's really not my problem.  :disgust;  I
wouldn't complain if someone knew how to solve that problem though!

Okay, knowing all of what I just said, my real problem is that when I update
my templates, they are not automatically updating all documents that they are
connected to. This is because, I assume, I am saying that I do not wish to save
changes. Is there a way to force my site to update links between templates and
html docs? And also, does anyone have ANY idea what the heck is going on with
my software?? I have uninstalled completely and reinstalled the entire package.
It seems to me that I've had this problem before, and an uninstall/ reinstall
solved it in the past. However I have now compltely uninstalled and reinstalled
a few times. I'm stumped. And frustrated. The only way I'm able to update my
site ater altering a template, at this time, is to open every page connected to
the template I've modified, and re-apply the template. Ugh! I just don't have
the time to do that for much longer!!

 Thanks in advance for any help or advice! :grin;
