Adobe Photoshop :: upgrading and install ask for original disk


	upgrading and install ask for original disk I am updating my computer to a new one and I want to reload Pshop v7, it is an up grade and it keeps asking for previous original disk. I have my Pshop v5 original disk but it is an upgrade too, so I when I insert that, it ask for my original disk (version 4.01 on floppy)but in order to do that, I have to insert my v4.01 floppy disk before I get the OK. Bad news now, I don't have a floppy on my new computer; I want to just be able to load my truly own copy of Photoshop 7 and be done with it. is there any possible way to do this ?? you need to call adobe. they'll give you a code to punch in. -----------------------------------------------Reply----------------------------------------------- Richard, It has been a long time since I installed PS7 as an upgrade from PS5, but I am pretty certain you will not need your PS5 serial number nor will PS5 need to be installed. In fact, the PS7 serial number is of a different format and thus it must be used instead of an older one of the format used by PS5. I know you're not really talking of a serial number problem, but it is the different format that I think also accounts for why you shouldn't need anything more than the PS5 upgrade installation CD for media validation...an authentication of the CD, rather than serial number validation. What may be confusing you is that the PS5 CD may well be launching its installer automatically. So, what you need to do when installing PS7 and prompted for the PS5 CD, is install the PS5 CD and cancel its installer if that launches. The PS7 installer should still be active and awaiting a media validation. There may be a prompt to OK for it to search all CD drives for valid media, something like that. So, allow that and then continue...the PS7 installation should proceed if I'm remembering all this correctly. Regards, Daryl -----------------------------------------------Reply----------------------------------------------- You can always prevent the PS5 CD from "Autorunning" by holding down the SHIFT key as you insert the disc. -----------------------------------------------Reply----------------------------------------------- Thanks for the reply, but actually what it is, is the installer wants to verify the original disk , and since I'm updating an upgrade it will only check for an original CD which when you put it in, it then states couldn't find serial number (or something to that effect.)because it is an upgrade. I then have to install version 5 (an upgrade), which asks the same question but includes an option for an original floppy or CD. I then insert the floppy and it OK's and proceeds to install v5. I then install version 7. Problem is this time, I have no floppydrive to insert a floppy into. I thought I read somewhere there was a workaround, but at the time, I didn't have time and I didn't have a need. I do plan on getting CS3 but haven't decided on standalone or in a suite. -----------------------------------------------Reply----------------------------------------------- Actually Richard. If that was the behavior, then things changed somewhere later on...perhaps PS CS, where upgrades can be done from an earlier upgrade CD as the validation media, with no prior serial number required nor does the prior version have to be installed. I did upgrades all the way through to CS and all I needed was the earlier upgrade CD for verification. My original full version was 3.0 and I can assure you I didn't need those floppies after installing 4.0 from a CD. Copy the installer for PS 7.0 to your harddrive and insert the PS 5.0 CD in the CD drive. Run the installer from the harddrive and see if that works. If I remember correctly, wasn't PS 5.5 the earliest you could upgrade from by inserting the disc for validation? We're talking about 7.0 here and I have feeling the OP may have a problem getting free help for something that old especially if it was never registered.
